Sri Navadvipa Dhama
Sri Navadvipa Dhama is beautifully situated on the banks of the Ganges. There are nine islands (Nava means nine, dvipa means island). Every island is separated by a tributary of the river Ganges. On each of these islands Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates performed Their transcendental pastimes. “…It is not proper to limit the size of the dhama as it is all-pervading and unlimited. In Navadvipa-dham, all the Vaikuntha planets are resting….But for the benefit of our limited vision; the Acharyas have mentioned different areas of the dhama. Navadvipa-dhama is situated at the centre of Gauda-mandala-bhumi, which is shaped like a one hundred-petalled lotus. Its circumference is 270 km (168 miles), and its diameter is 90 km (56 miles), and its radius is 51 km (32 miles). The Ganga flows through the centre of Gaura-mandala-bhumi. Sri Gauranga performed His pastimes throughout Gaura-mandala-bhumi.” “He who lives in Navadvipa-dhama is very fortunate, for he achieves attraction for Krishna. He who happens to go there becomes freed from all offenses. What one attains by travelling to all the holy places is attained just by remembering Navadvipa. In this way the scriptures sing. He who sees Navadvipa-dhama gets ecstatic love of Krishna birth after birth. Even one who goes to Navadvipa desiring to gain material comforts through pious activities will not take another birth. The sastras say that one who walks around Navadvipa attains the fruit of millions of asvamedha-yajnas at every step. And one who lives in Navadvipa and chants mantras obtains the sound of Caitanya as his mantra and easily gets free from maya. What yogis obtain after ten years at other tirthas is obtained in three nights at Navadvipa.” So how is it possible, to see the transcendental nature of the Dhama? It is stated in the Navadvipa Mahatmya: ”…. Whoever wants to cross the ocean of material existence by logic and argument will simply toil in vain. He will receive nothing. But by giving up false arguments and taking the guidance of sadhu and sastra, one will soon receive Sri Caitanya. For on the order of Nityananda Prabhu, the sruti (Vedas), smrti (Puranas), and tantra sastras are continuously singing the glories of Navadvipa-dhama. By reading these scriptures and accepting the words of the devotees, one will realize the truth of Navadvipa-dhama…” At the time of devastation in this material world, Sri Navadvipa Dham is not destroyed like an ordinary place in this planet. How it takes place, is explained below by Lord Nityananda prabhu to Sri Jiva |
